Kaesler Old Vine Barossa Shiraz 2007»
Rating? Wicked - 5 stars!
A big, flavourful palate of berries, toast and reduction blooms into the height of a summer's day, swooning to complexities of violet and rosewater, liqueured cherries, bitter dark chocolate, scorched almond, soy, leather and spice.
Mount Langi Cliff Edge Shiraz 2008»
Rating? Heart starting stuff - 4½ stars!
Navigate your way between the pillars of herculean tannins and fruit, countenance the enchanting waves of cherries and plum, cassis, menthol and dark, red currants. The baby brother to Langi Ghiran Shiraz notwithstanding, this is a monumental wine to bring out with the bravest faire and worthiest company.
Fox Creek Reserve Merlot»
Rating? Wicked - 5 stars!
A combination of ripe dark fruits with meatyness and savoury, plum with soy, blueberry with musk. Gloriously delivered within a basket of vanilla and cigarbox oak with polite, yielding tannins, brought to a finish of immeasurable length.
Heathcote Winery Mail Coach Shiraz 2009»
Rating? Right up there - 4½ stars!
Mail Coach is made masculine by it's jutting jawbone of steroid tannins and dense, brawny fruit framed by firm oak around a core of cherry, espresso and tar. There's so much to kick back and savour, a chewy, tooth staining winegum of a Shiraz.
Seabrook Pyrenees Shiraz 2006»
Rating? Its a thriller - 5 stars!
Cherry, charcoal and anise around a core of stalky tannins and smudgy, old closet oak, powerful fruit filled finish and impressive length.
Yarra Ridge Pinot Noir 2008»
Rating? Right up there - 4 stars!
A cherub of a Pinot wine with a halo of true regional highlights, sweet smelling loam, mace and earth, gum leaf and mint, currant and raspberry, on a wing and a prayer of light, vanilla oak. Refreshingly drying at the finish to lingering expresssions of rhubarb and cola, Yarra Ridge culminates with easing tannins, genteel fruit, poise and natural charm.
